Most of us know that quality links to our site is one of the best ways to make our site look better in Google's eyes. I would love to hear what your best backlinking tactics are. I use article marketing a lot as well as forum marketing and blog commenting to acquire good links.

You can always find forums that allow signature files. If you can find a forum that is on the same topic or niche as your site you can build some good back links this way.

This will only work if it is a dofollow link, though. Many forums have made them nofollow to keep spammers from taking advantage. Then all you have left is the little bit of direct traffic you may get. There's a great plug-in for Firefox which can show you if a link is dofollow or nofollow called SEO for Firefox. I recommend turning that feature off when doing ordinary surfing as it is rather annoying when it's not needed.

Most of my backlinks come through my article marketing but I've also been pretty successful with commenting on dofollow blogs that are related to my niche sites. I don't just spam and run, though. I continue to post there whenever there is a new post that I feel I can add a relevant, useful comment to.
