I really want to learn to at least do basic HTML coding for my own sites. Eventually, I want to learn to go a step further and learn CSS but I figured I need to start with the basics. Share with me your best URLs to sites with good basic tutorials to learn HTML?

You could find a lot of real good info simply by googling for 'html tutorial'.
I personally like to learn by trial and error: A good method is by using an html editor like Frontpage and go tweak the code, or using portions of the generated html for my pages.
Hope this helps. Also, if you have any questions, post them here. The forum is very fresh and a few here are willing to help :)

Thanks, twalk. I have Googled but a lot of what turns up is still way over my head. I figured someone might be able to recommend a site that was easy to understand. I'll keep checking sites out until I can learn a few things.

Maybe this one is very simple. In 10 lesson it explains the most common chapters. On my opinion the first 5 are already quite enough :)

I personally use a few text formatting tags, and maybe the links tag, but honestly I use Frontpage just to 'steal' the pieces of code that I need.
Any html editor, even a free one will do the trick. Sometimes what Frontpage generates is too complicated and makes the page slow to load.
I don't feel it is necessary to write a page from scratch. Specially if you want to build tables, or have good search engine friendly headers.

And BTW FrontPage is a terrible suggestion. It bloats the code, roots you to the web host and makes it frustrating for professional coders to help you if you need it. Let's see, FrontPage has been replaced by Expression Web, FrontPage is a security nightmare just waiting to be found by a blackhat, etc etc etc.
Try something like Notepad++ and learn to do it by hand first.

:D Ever tried the 'publish' feature of Frontpage? Best way to kill a website.

Facinating. It amazes me how many ways people come up with to advertise their sites and abuse the forums. Me hopes you get booted soon.

Amazing. Just done right now. :D May your site die in internet blackhole, Karolin. You'll never do it this way.
