Templates or not?

Do you only create your own unique site designs or do you use templates. I have found that templates are not all bad as long as you have some good content on page.

I use templates but I make sure to create some unique headers and images throughout the site. If you do that and have unique content, it will be fine in terms of SEO and for visitors to not see a page they've found 100 times before.

Really, you think people are going to run into the "same" site template that much? I don't know about that, there are billions of websites, I think you should be fine with a template, but of course making it unique never hurt.

I have run into the same templates quite often, actually. When I choose one, I try to find one that is less popular because some are so popular that you find them all over the place. I also do what Sara mentioned above and tweak the template in some way to make it more unique.
